About us

Kulturprojekte has been heavily involved in shaping Berlin’s cultural scene for many years, always endeavouring to foster the city’s lively creative landscape. Today, we continue to seek out unique themes, initiate complex projects and implement these events together with a number of trusted partners.

As a not-for-profit state company, we support the culture and creative economy of Berlin and provide information on educational programs across the city’s diverse museum landscape, while also developing and realising theme-based commemorative years, events and exhibitions. We work hard to convey culture, art and history and to provide advice and networking opportunities to artists, creative professionals and other members of the creative economy. Our cultural projects include large-scale city-wide events, such as the LICHTGRENZE installation celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the annual LONG NIGHT OF MUSEUMS and the BERLIN ART WEEK. Our cultural education fund known as the BERLIN PROJECTS FUNDS FOR CULTURAL EDUCATION also allows us to support projects for children and young people. We organise the BERLIN EXHIBITION AT THE HUMBOLDT FORUM, operate the consulting centre known  as CREATIVE CULTURE BERLIN and also bring educational programmes to Berlin’s museums by means of our MUSEUM SERVICE BERLIN.

WHAT SETS US APART

Unusual concepts and surprising ideas are our trademark. We organise ambitious and often demanding undertakings and carry them out in popular formats. Our projects thrive on the participation of the general public and prompt tens of thousands of people to engage with a wide range of topics each year. We draw on a far-reaching network of partners and bring together many players active in the realms of culture, education, science, politics and business to realise exciting cultural projects for Berlin. Our undertakings are conceived by a multitude of creative minds and designed for enjoyment by everyone. Also, we implement the productions from start to finish— from the concept to the technical realization as well as communication, together with our diverse team.

EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS

Kulturprojekte Berlin initiates and implements both one-off and recurring large-scale Berlin projects, events and exhibitions. For example, we organise the annual LONG NIGHT OF MUSEUMS, the BERLIN ART WEEK and the bi-annual EMOP BERLIN—EUROPEAN MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY. Our one-off projects included DIVERSITY DESTROYED. BERLIN 1933—1938 (2013), the LICHTGRENZE (2014) light installation celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the DAY OF GERMAN UNITY (2018), various jubilee programmes for BERLIN CITY PARTNERSHIPS as well as the joint city-wide project 100 YEARS OF REVOLUTION—BERLIN 1918/19. In 2019, we will be commemorating the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with a city-wide festival week of celebrations under the name 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE PEACEFUL REVOLUTION—FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL. We are also organising the BAUHAUS WEEK BERLIN 2019 as part of the Germany-wide celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus. Together with the Stadtmuseum Berlin, we are shaping the BERLIN EXHIBITION AT THE HUMBOLDT FORUM and also planning the project 75th ANNIVERSARY OF LIBERATION with several partners for May 2020.

With the help of a number of different partners, we are continuing to establish our company headquarters, the PODEWIL, as the central location for cultural education in Berlin.

EDUCATION, MEDIATION & INFORMATION

By means of our MUSEUM SERVICE BERLIN, we conceive and organise educational and outreach programmes on behalf of many Berlin museums, exhibition sites and memorials. The Museum Service also provides information on the latest programmes at the institutions with whom it cooperates. We publish the magazine MUSEUMSJOURNAL as well as many other publications, and our online portals BERLIN BÜHNEN and MUSEUMSPORTAL BERLIN provide up-to-date overviews of Berlin’s multifaceted theatre and museum landscape.

SCHAUBUDE BERLIN

The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN is our production site for contemporary puppetry and object theatre and has emerged as an internationally recognised platform for the genre. Located on Greifswalder Straße in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, the programme offered there unites productions created by Berlin-based theatre professionals with national and international guest performances, in particular as part of the renowned festival for puppetry and object theatre known as the THEATER DER DINGE
