Throughout May, the event series THFxGESCHICHTE (THFxHISTORY) commemorates the 80th Anniversary of the end of 2nd World War with several readings. Volker Kutscher, author of the series about Commissar Gereon Rath in 1920s and 1930s Berlin, will read from his crime novel Olympia, in which a scene takes place at the Columbia concentration camp. In a subsequent discussion between him and Dr. Karoline Georg, the conversation will focus both on a literary approach and a historical contextualization. The books of the Rath series served as the basis for the popular ARD series “Babylon Berlin”.
About the book:
While the Nazis built a friendly facade at the 1936 Olympics, the currently most famous commissar in historical crime fiction uncovers an unimaginable conspiracy. In his eighth case, Gereon Rath is sent to the Olympic village. The 1936 Olympic Games were intended to show the world the harmlessness of the Nazis. However, during his undercover investigation, it becomes increasingly clear to Rath just how dangerous a charade the regime is playing.
