Over 100,000 visitors came to the exhibition based in Berlin in the Atelierhaus Monbijoupark and to the four other venues - Berlinishe Galerie, Hamburger Bahnhof, KW - Institute for Contemporary Art and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.). The works, produced by 80 emerging artists from 26 countries that live and work in Berlin, represent contemporary art practices from painting and drawing to sculpture, photograpy, film and video, to textual works and perfomances, to installations. The Essential Nutrients part of the exhibition was an extensive events program with screenings, performances and live acts, workshops and debates. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin has developed into one of the most important cities for the production of contemporary art worldwide. Berlin's reputation as creative, cosmopolitan and dynamic contantly draws many domestic and foreign artists to the capital city. The title based in Berlin alludes to the fact that Berlin enjoys recognition from all over the world as an artists' workplace. Many artists have decided to live and work in Berlin based on this recognition. Through based in Berlin, an awareness for contemporary art was created in Berlin and through the many visitors to the exhibition, a wide art interested public was reached.
