Berlin Art Week in autum alongside Gallery Weekend in spring are the major highlights of the Berlin art year. Founded in 2012 as a consortium of various partners, it has now established itself as an important date on the international art calendar. For five days, Berlin Art Week addresses the latest developments in contemporary art and brings together many important players from Berlin's art world–the Positions Berlin Art Fair and Galleries as well as the major institutions of contemporary art, private collections, and project spaces. Under the auspices of Kulturprojekte Berlin, responsible for the coordination and communication of this event, they invite the public to a packed programme of exhibition and gallery openings, performances, award ceremonies, and numerous special guided tours. In September 2019, Berlin Art Week attracted around 120,000 art enthusiasts and art professionals from Berlin and around the world.
Berlin Art Week 2020 is one of the first major cultural events in Berlin since the outbreak of the Corona Pandemic in Germany, which will take place 'live' again - citywide, decentralized, outside and also digitally. Even in times of strict hygiene and distance rules, the whole spectrum of exhibitions, openings, fairs, interventions and tours will be open to art-interested visitors from September 9-13.
This year, numerous program points will also be offered online by the partner institutions - Berlin Art Week bundles them on its website: The ›Playlist‹ contains live streams, performances, podcasts and radio programs, while the ›Journal'‹ features interviews, news and many more articles about the Berlin Art Week program.
