The Berlin Project Fund „Kulturelle Bildung“ (Cultural Education) was founded in April 2008 by Berlin‘s House representatives as a central instrument for the realization of groundbreaking projects in the field of cultural education. The Project Fund was co-initiated and built up by Kulturprojekte Berlin and operated for ten years. On January 1, 2020, the Berlin Project Fund was transferred to the Stiftung für Kulturelle Weiterbildung und Kulturberatung (Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consulting). The funding practice will continue unchanged.
The Berlin Project Fund allocates funding to three panels of educational activities. Ever since, almost 200,000 young Berliners participated in more than 2,700 projects. The format values projects that involve at least two partners, one of each from the scene of art and culture and the other covering the field of education or youth.
The main purpose is to create and realize cooperations between artists or cultural institutions with educational institutions or youth clubs. Therefore, children, youngsters and adolescents get the chance to gain practical experiences in their own city and are confronted with urban spaces, professions, strategies, ideas, techniques, attitudes and opinions that convey new perspectives on thinking and acting.
