Every two years, EMOP Berlin introduces a full spectrum of historic and contemporary photography. Over the course of one month, Germany's largest photography festival presents exhibition projects and events selected by a jury that take place at museums, cultural institutions, galleries, project spaces, embassies, and photography schools in Berlin and Potsdam. The European network of the European Month of Photography has been presenting itself with a common logo and a shared Internet domain since 2016. The eight partner cities-Athens, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris, and Vienna-reinforce the cooperation with their own respective festivals.
From September 29 through October 31, 2018, the 8th EMOP Berlin once again greeted friends of photography from all over the world. More than 100 participating institutions and approximately 500 photographers presented photography in all its various facets in around 120 exhibitions and over 300 events.
For the second time the EMOP Berlin opening was hosted at Amerika Haus on Hardenbergstrasse. The EMOP Opening Days, which took place from September 28-30 and were curated by C/O, offered a comprehensive program around the subjects "light and time" with internationally renowned photographers, curators, media experts, archivists, and journalists around the subject. With its many panel discussions, artists' talks, musical acts, and evening parties, the EMOP Opening Days marked a brilliant start to the 8th European Month of Photography Berlin, which counted 500.000 visitors in total.
