Every two years Germany's popular photo festival presents, in numerous exhibition projects, a broad range of historical and contemporary photography selected by a jury of experts. For one month, small project rooms stand on equal footing with large museums, cultural institutions of a country with photo schools, embassies with established galleries. Even in times of strict hygiene and distance rules, the 9th edition of EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography presents again more than 100 exhibitions with over 500 photographers.
This year's main theme: Europe - identity, crisis, future. Further themes are 30 years of reunification and 100 years Greater Berlin as well as classical genres and portrait, architecture and fashion photography. The festival will open on October 1 at Akademie der Künste on Pariser Platz together with the central exhibition CONTINENT - In Search of Europe by OSTKREUZ- Agentur der Fotografen.
The EMOP Opening Days - curated by Akademie der Künste - will offer a diverse program from October 1-4 under the motto Photography between Art, Politics and Mass Media by and with numerous international guests.
In addition to numerous events EMOP Berlin offers exciting programmes with Artists in Action and Photo Book Talks: Artists in Action gives visitors personal insights into the studios or exhibitions of several photographers who talk about their lives and works.
Photo books offer more than a "best-of" compilation of pictures. They are works of art in their own right. The Photo Book Talks present three Berlin publishers who focus on photography. The protagonists will talk to the photographers and their joint works.
