SCHAUBUDE Berlin was founded in 1993 by the Senate and continues to be a prominent national and international venue for puppet, figure and object theatre, with an ongoing programme of events for children and adults. It hosts a broad spectrum of perfomances, from classical to experimental. The expressive powers of these productions are given life by physical objects - the puppet, the thing, the material. SCHAUBUDE Berlin hosts festivals like the International Festival of young Puppet, Figure and Object Theatre »VERSUCHUNG« and co-productions, projects, special guest performances and symposiums. It is as much a playground for independent Berlin groups as national and internation ensembles. The annual »Tage der Hochschule« is an important forum for the Berlin Theatre Academy to show their work and engage in artistic debate.

The organisation is committed to maintaing its various partnerships with FITZ! Zentrum für Figurentheater Stuttgart, Deutschen Forum für Figurentheater und Puppenspielkunst e. V. Bochum, Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart – Studiengang Figurentheater. In addition, with its partner school Erika-Mann-Grundschule in Wedding, Bouché-Grundschule (TUSCH) in Treptow as well as the Kita Wirbelwind Weißensee (TUKI).

Due to the decision of the Berlin senate to prolong the 'corona shutdown' until July 31, 2020, Schaubude is unfortunately not going to reopen this theatre season.
