Berlin has celebrated this unique joint festival four times over the years. In one jam-packed night, up to 70 opera and theatre stages showcase their work in all of its diversity.

On 25 April 2009, opera and theatre fans in Berlin were treated to a grandiose premiere. Over the course of one long evening, a wide array of large and small stages – including such stalwarts as the Staatsoper and the Deutsches Theater alongside more independent theatre production houses – gave more than 200 performances across the city as part of the first Long Night of Opera and Theatre. The city’s operas and theatres had drawn inspiration from the ongoing success of the highly popular all-night museum event known as the ‘Long Night of Museums’ – which we also co-organise together with the museums – and decided to implement a unique new iteration of that format together with us.

More than 200 performances at venerable theatres but also at small and independent stages delighted audiences in one jam-packed night of opera and theatre.
